In a surprise move, the Libertarian candidate for Senate District 28 has stepped aside and is urging his supporters and undecided voters to rally behind the Republican candidate, Sueyuna Duthie.

Libertarian Ken Wyble said his motivation for stepping aside is rooted in his and Duthie’s shared goal to unseat Democrat incumbent Suzanne Williams. “She takes so much money from unions,” said Wyble. “Our big concern is that she’ll rise into a position of power and that would be detrimental to our district.”

Wyble accused Williams of taking direction from special interests rather than constituents and criticized her liberal voting record.

As Face the State has previously reported, multiple close state legislative races in recent years have been decided by margins closer than the number of the total votes received by Libertarian candidates.

Wyble’s name will still be on the ballot and he admitted to getting messages from friends who had already voted for him by mail before hearing that he had suspended his campaign. He estimates that he would have only received one to two percent of the vote.

The Aurora district has been home to heated races in recent years. In 2004, Williams unseated incumbent Republican Bruce Cairns.
