August 8th Update: With primaries less than a week away, contested partisan races have seen money pour in. Third parties are stepping up involvement in local races, and hard hitting 527 mail is showing up in mailboxes around the state. Meanwhile, candidates are trying to max out their donor lists and hit as many houses as possible before Election Day.
Senate District 8

Bacon is seeing thousands of dollars roll in from his favorite union, the Poudre Education Association, but as Face The State recently reported, there could be some voter backlash against unions this election cycle.

Ytterberg mail is coming soon to a mailbox near you. He spent nearly $9,000 on mailings and campaign fodder over the last two weeks of July. In contrast, Gibbs didn't spend a dime and enjoyed contributions from organized labor.

Republican Businesswoman & GOP activist Libby Szabo v. Democrat State Board of Education member Evie Hudak

Hudak spent $8,500 on polling this cycle. Meanwhile, Szabo laid low on spending, while expending tremendous physical resources on an active door-to-door campaign. Heavy hitting mail and third party involvment are also starting to play in this district. To learn more, click here.

August 4 Cash on hand: Bodnar $8,731.15; Gagliardi $34,255.37
Bodnar has been out raised nearly 5-to-1 in this race, but that hasn't stopped him from distributing yard signs all over this suburban district the past few weeks. While Gagliardi has union money on her side, Bodnar will likely benefit from a Republican registration advantage, but whoever can secure the unaffiliated vote will win this district. Spending in this race has been frugal the past few weeks. Primavera enjoyed a contributions from the CAPE SEIU this cycle and the Democratic Women of Boulder county. Both candidates are focused on going door-to-door and trying to win over the unaffiliated voters, who make up the largest group of registered voters in this district. To learn more click here.

As Face The State reported Cullom paid her husband $1,500 for "campaign management" last cycle, but the expense was not repeated this round. When asked about the expense James Cullom told FTS, "it is not the right time to talk about the finances of the campaign.” Meanwhile, Balmer's cash on hand has been hovering over $100,000, making him one of the state's top fundraisers.
House District 50

After raising over $33,000 this cycle, Buescher spent $45,000 on campaign advertising. This is the first big move his campaign has made, but it is not going to be the last. Rumored to be the next speaker of the house, Buescher is poised to do whatever it takes to keep his seat in this strong Republican district. Bradford is running her campaign on a much smaller budget and relying on yard signs and mail to get out her message. Read more about this race here.

Rep. Christine Scanlan, D-Dillion v. Republican challenger Ali Hasan

After last cycle Hasan was running a little low on cash, so he gave his campaign $35,000, which he promptly spent on more advertising. House District 62
A primary between Democrats Ed Vigil, a county commissioner, and Dr. Rocky White, will determine who will run against Republican Randy Jackson

With the August primary less than a week away Vigil is throwing all he's got at beating the liberal Dr. White. He spent almost all his money on campaign brochures, robo calls and advertising. House District 64
Rep. Wes McKinley, D-Walsh v. Republican Ken Torres
33.3% Rep; 41.62% Dem; 24.93% Unaffiliated

With both candidates struggling to figure out Colorado's campaign finance laws, the actual campaigning in this district has been minimal. Torres has struggled to bank campaign cash, and McKinley had for a significant period failed to file reports. The Secretary of State levied a $7,000 fine on his campaign for the error. With three Democrats and two Republicans vying to replace term-limited Speaker of the House Andrew Romanoff, this district has been a hub of activity. After August 12, however, these five candidates will be narrowed down to just two.

Always one to break the mold, Bruce appears to be exclusively self-funding his campaign, and hasn't even gone to the trouble to creating a campaign committee to receive contributions. Instead, he files with the Secretary of State statements of personal expenditures. In all, Bruce has dropped a relatively large sum of his own funds on his race, spending $31,693.10 since October 2007.
House District 57
