Face The State was on hand for Monday's west suburban meeting of Liberty on the Rocks, a growing group of activists who meet twice a month to talk all things libertarian. Joining the usual cadre of local rabble rousers were quite a few elected officials, and plenty more who fancy themselves joining their ranks.

State Republican Representatives Jim Kerr, R-Littleton, and Ken Summers, R-Lakewood, joined statehouse hopeful Andrew Goad, who is looking to unseat pro-union Ed Casso, D-Commerce City. Also spotted gripping-and-grinning was gubernatorial candidate Dan Maes, who took advantage of the sizable crowd to announce one of his first campaign promises.
"The first thing I will do if elected governor is fire 1,000 state employees to bring the budget back in-line," he said.
Also in the crowd were CD-7 candidate Brian Campbell and Lakewood City Council candidate Amy Attwood. Matt Arnold of Clear the Bench Colorado also attended, working to grow his coalition working to unseat a number of sitting state Supreme Court justices next year.
Tom Tancredo, the evening's featured speaker, encouraged the candidates in attendance to "stay focused" and applauded their willingness to jump into the political scene.
"It's not acceptable to do nothing," said Tancredo, who last year mounted a bid for the GOP nomination for President before dropping out of the running. "Never once did I think I would actually be President, but it was just something I could do."
