5/20: Colorado needs Federal judges...now

Topics: ,

Judges, judges! My kingdom for some Federal judges! What’s the hold-up in filling Colorado’s federal bench?

More on that in a moment on the Face The State Radio Minute.

Politics is a complex, ugly sport, particularly when it comes to appointing federal judges. A seat on the federal bench is a job for life, and the consequences for choosing the wrong person can be significant and lasting. So, yeah, it’s a process that should be taken very seriously.

But Colorado has been three black robes short of a full slate of seven federal judges for years now, and there’s no indication the White House is about to fill those vacancies any time soon.

There’s plenty of blame to throw around, including Sens. Ken Salazar and Wayne Allard, who bickered over who to recommend for the job. But they’ve now come to agree on two names, and that’s a good starting point. President Bush should get busy in nominating those attorneys and just get on with it.
