A train station modeled after an ice cream cone? You heard me right.
More on that in a moment on the Face The State Radio Minute.
What do train stations and ice cream cones have in common? Nothing really, unless you’re in Lakewood, where the cold stuff we all scream for is the inspiration for a multi-million dollar train station.
Yeah, it sounded weird when I heard it, too. But I swear it’s true!
As part of a new light-rail service, the city wants to install a huge multicolored canopy on the track platform. Are we going to poll schoolchildren about their favorite flavors, err, colors, next?
The multi-billion dollar price tag for the rail project is already far beyond what voters were promised. Lakewood residents are paying their fair share – and then some – of this huge burden. Why, then, is the city electing to spend all kinds of extra money on a fantastical artistic statement? If they want to do residents will really enjoy, why not just get everyone the real thing, a lifetime supply of Cherry Garcia?
