Metro student rejects plea bargain

A Metropolitan State College student charged with marijuana possession declined a Denver prosecutor's offer Wednesday to plead guilty to a lesser charge of drug paraphernalia possession.

Timothy Arndt's case was set to go to trial Wednesday before a six-member jury in Denver Municipal Court, but it was rescheduled for May 27.

Arndt, 24, was arrested in February and charged under a state law for possessing .44 grams of marijuana, the equivalent of less than half a packet of sugar.

Civil libertarians are watching the case with interest because Denver voters amended the city code in 2005 to legalize possession of small amounts of marijuana by adults. But Denver authorities have continued to prosecute under the state law.

This is a waste of taxpayer dollars and is an offense to all citizens. Stop this prosecution. In NO other City where a similar decriminalization law has passed do they enforce the State law.. ONLY in Colorado.. due to the very poor judgement of our law enforcement and legal system.

I look forward to the day when we can sue these fools in court for wasting taxpayer money.

There are child molesters walking free due to limited resources being expended on this foolishness.

You are a stupid stupid stupid group of lawmen.

Stop the murderers, thieves, rapists, and child beaters, ..oh wait, that is too hard.. yes, you are lazy.

SO WHAT IS THIS PERSONS NATIONALITY? HE MUST BE BLACK OR MEXICAN BECAUSE WHITE BOYS ARE NEVER CHARGED FOR PETTY DRUG CRIMES... AND WE WONDER WHY ARE JAILS ARE JAMMED PACKED! THE POPULATION OF BLACKS IN PRISON WENT FOR 78,000 IN THE 60'S TO MORE THAN 1 MILLION TODAY. WHY? BECAUSE BLACKS AND MEXICANS ARE MORE LIKELY THEN WHITES TO GO TO JAIL FOR PETTY DRUG OFFENSES. THIS IS ONLY A WAY TO MAKE SURE THE WHITE MAN NEVER LOSES HIS SPOT AT THE TOP. YES, PEOPLE SHOULD MAKE BETTER CHOICES, BUT CONSEQUENCES FOR THE SAME CRIME, REGARDLESS OF NATIONALITY, SHOULD BE THE SAME.

This is what scares me,knowing people who are terminally ill.Having to risk arrest from buying maryjane. Why should you fear if you have cancer,a.i.d.s. or a brain tumor getting arrested over buying something that eases the pain and vomiting. Why is it that hemp produces a burnable oil and yet it is illegal to possess it.Ask yourself if it really is a crime to smoke something that could improve your quality of life.Yet it seems a group of small minded people are controlling something that could ease misery.I bet if it was up to them and it could ease their cancer pain I bet they smoke it.
