Qwest said today that it would begin offering wireless service from Verizon this summer.
Terms of the five-year agreement were not disclosed. Denver-based Qwest currently offers cellular service under its own name using the SprintNextel network.
Earlier this year, Qwest chief executive and chairman Ed Mueller said the company would look for a "retail" partnership with a wireless provider. That would allow Qwest's wireless customers to get the same new-model cellphones that are available in retail stores.
"We are excited to be partnering with Verizon Wireless and believe this opportunity will enhance the Qwest customer experience," said Mueller in a written statement. "Qwest's strategies for success certainly will benefit from this deal, and we look forward to a solid relationship with Verizon Wireless."
