In his proposed budget for the coming fiscal year, Gov. Bill Ritter, a Democrat, provided no extra cushion for a significant dip in federal transportation funding. Republicans questioned the move as uncertainty lingers about whether voters will approve today a proposed constitutional amendment that could dramatically increase funding for Colorado's roads.

Backers of Amendment 52 announced Wednesday they have the full support of former state Senate President John Andrews, U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn, his primary opponent Jeff Crank, and the state’s most popular conservative radio host, Mike Rosen.

“I like 52 because it identifies a responsible revenue stream for roads and does so without new taxes,” Andrews said.

"We're on a roll here at Rocky Opinion: You likely noticed that we've already started our endorsements for November's ballot amendments, but we just recently had in an opponents for Amendment 52, which would divert money into a state transportation fund "which may be used only to fund the construction, maintenance, and supervision of public highways in the state, giving first priority to reducing congestion on the Interstate 70 corridor." We had in Rep. Cory Gardner early in our editorial board process, and just recently Rep. Jack Pommer dropped by to give an opposing view.
