July 2, 2009Cheers erupted at Colorado's mountain casinos at 12:01 am Thursday as higher limits, new table games and 24-hour gaming became reality following passage of Amendment 50 last year. Voters in Black Hawk, Cripple Creek and Central City quickly thereafter voted to exercise their new constitutional options, bringing a flavor of Las Vegas to the high country.
Casinos ready to cash in?

Ritter's gaming veto angers mountain residents

April 28, 2009Residents of Teller and Gilpin Counties are not happy with Gov. Bill Ritter’s first veto of the session. Nixed was Senate Bill 50, which would have required that one of the five members of the Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission come from either of the two counties. While Ritter said the bill created the “appearance of conflict,” one local activist is calling Ritter a hypocrite.
