August 28, 2008Pedestrians on Denver's 16th Street Mall are used to seeing police wearing paramilitary gear during the DNC, but one protest group is donning military gear and going on "patrol" downtown to call an end to the War in Iraq. Heads turned as members of Iraq Veterans Against the War shouted commands and clashed with volunteer "civilians" in staged confrontations.

Activists were relegated to a small patch of grass on the southwest corner of park, as well as a free speech zone closer to the convention. As of 1 p.m. Wednesday, however, there were few takers on either location.
