DeGette will host only one 'town hall' meeting - by phone

A Face the State Staff Report

August 4, 2009

DeGette

Members of Congress leave Washington, D.C. for their home districts this week to begin a month long "work session" recess. With a health care reform package looming on the horizon, many U.S. Senators and Representatives are using the time in-district to meet with constituents and promote their position on the bill. A survey of Colorado's congressional delegation shows a wide variation in plans for the break, with one Representative planning seven in-person meetings with voters while another will hold only one "telephone town hall" this week.

After successfully helping to shift Colorado from red to blue over the course of the last three election cycles, the state's liberal political infrastructure maintains a strong presence. Now, in preparation for the state's 2010 elections, parts of the model are shifting and even being exported to other states.

Happy Birthday Jared; we're still not giving you our money!

We love following Jared Polis...on Twitter, that is

March 26, 2009

Ok, so we don’t want to keep picking on Jared Polis, but we just can’t resist commenting on his posts to Twitter, the online social network that allows people to provide short status updates.

We already blogged about Polis’s sycophantic "tweets" over President Barack Obama, and it just keeps getting better.

Polis warns businesses not to get too close to government

March 21, 2009

"Yesterday I heard a newscast playing a recording of Congressman Jared Polis (D-CO, representing the district I live in) saying “We will hunt down your executives with pitchforks, we will subpoena your boards and haul you before Congress…”

I know Jared Polis a little bit and I am well aware of his success in the private sector (something far too few members of Congress have accomplished). So, I simply couldn’t imagine him meaning what he appeared to be saying in that obviously carefully-edited-by-a-news-department quote."

Amid economic crisis, Polis hosts taxpayer-funded staff retreat

A Face the State Staff Report

March 5, 2009

The same week President Barack Obama signed the $787 billion economic stimulus bill into law, Congressman Jared Polis, a Boulder Democrat, took 18 of his staffers on a taxpayer-funded retreat to the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder. Polis is the only member of Colorado's nine-member congressional delegation to host a retreat thus far this year.

Polis vs. Polis on cars and health care

December 30, 2008

"The December 28, 2008 Boulder Daily Camera has published my latest OpEd on health care. Interestingly, the first online comment in response was from Congressman-elect Jared Polis himself.

Boulder's Congressman-elect Jared Polis recently took a bold stand against a federal bailout of the automobile industry, correctly arguing that that the car manufacturers' problems should be handled by the private sector, not the government. Coloradans should urge him to apply the same principles to the issue of health care reform."

Polis' WSJ article forgot to mention health care

December 17, 2008

"Democratic Congressman-elect Jared Polis of Boulder, Colorado, recently wrote a fairly good OpEd for the December 10, 2008 Wall Street Journal in which he warned that Congress should not bail out the auto industry, but instead let the private sector take care of the problem.

Polis is quite right on that point. The function of government is not to run businesses but to protect individual rights.

Yet he fails to apply his own argument to health care. Polis is a proponent of government-run "single payer" health care, and he would use Medicare as the model."

Carroll joins Jared Polis fan club

December 11, 2008

"Who'da thunk that liberal Democratic congressman-elect Jared Polis could make conservative Rocky Mountain News editorial page editor Vince Carroll gush as he does in today's column "Polis Off to Great Start"? Apparently only Carroll himself, he writes, "More than a year ago, I suggested that Polis would prove to be a far more independent member of Congress than the Democratic front-runner at the time, former state Senate President Joan Fitz-Gerald. But I hardly expected him to prove it before he'd even taken the oath of office.""

Polis published with the Independence Institute in 2001

"I was perusing my favorite Colorado news source, CompleteColorado.com, and came across this Jared Polis article in the Wall Street Journal of all places. The piece titled, Let’s Cut Cap-Gains Taxes on Auto Investments, might be shocking to the untrained eye, but it came as little surprise to us at the Independence Institute.

Polis has more sense than the average Dem

December 10, 2008

"Newly-elected Congressman Jared Polis shows he has a lot more sense than your average Democrat - at least on one great issue of importance in our day. Polis’ proposal is at least a better idea then what the Congressional Democrats are working on now. Can you imagine Joan FitzGerald writing something similar? That being said, if a Democrat is going to represent Boulder’s district in Congress, there are plenty of worse choices than Jared Polis"
